Site Walkthrough & Infrastructure Survey Technician (Bench Ticket)
Location: Birmingham, AL
Duration: Initial 4-Hour Minimum Engagement
Project Type: Infrastructure Discovery, Site Survey & Documentation

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Site Walkthrough & Infrastructure Survey Technician to perform an onsite discovery assessment at a customer location in Birmingham, Alabama. This engagement is part of a larger upcoming IT infrastructure migration and hardware relocation initiative.

The technician will conduct a comprehensive facility walkthrough, document existing infrastructure, capture photographs, record equipment inventories, and provide detailed notes regarding the physical environment and technology assets present onsite.

In addition to the survey activities, the technician may be asked to assist with a simple end-user support task, including helping a user reconnect or configure a workstation to an existing printer/scanner device while onsite.

Prior to the site visit, the technician will participate in a pre-engagement briefing call with the partner engineering team and internal project lead ("David") to review project objectives, documentation requirements, and site-specific expectations.


Primary Responsibilities

Site Survey & Discovery

  • Perform a structured walkthrough of the customer facility.
  • Capture detailed photographs of:
    • Server rooms
    • Network closets
    • Office areas
    • Conference rooms
    • Printer and scanner locations
    • Network infrastructure
    • Loading and staging areas
    • Elevator access points
    • Cabling pathways (where visible)
  • Record existing infrastructure conditions and physical layout.
  • Document any potential risks or challenges for future migration activities.

IT Asset Inventory Collection

Survey and document all visible technology assets, including:

Servers

  • Manufacturer
  • Model numbers
  • Rack locations
  • Approximate quantities
  • Physical condition
  • Any visible asset tags

Network Equipment

  • Switches
  • Routers
  • Firewalls
  • Wireless infrastructure
  • Patch panels
  • UPS devices
  • Rack-mounted equipment

Printers & Scanners

  • Manufacturer
  • Model
  • Physical location
  • Approximate user population served

Workstations & Office Areas

  • Desk counts
  • Office counts
  • Cubicle counts
  • Shared workspace counts

Conference Rooms

  • Room quantities
  • Display technologies
  • Video conferencing equipment
  • Cameras
  • Speakers
  • Microphones
  • Room scheduling panels
  • Other collaboration hardware

Cabling Assessment

Perform a visual assessment and document:

  • Copper cabling presence
  • Fiber cabling presence
  • Patch panel utilization
  • Cable management conditions
  • Labeling quality
  • General cabling organization
  • Potential migration considerations

Facility Logistics Assessment

Document physical access considerations including:

  • Loading dock availability
  • Building access procedures
  • Parking conditions
  • Freight elevator availability
  • Maintenance elevator availability
  • Equipment transport pathways
  • Staging locations for future migration activities
  • Security and badging requirements (if applicable)

Basic End User Support

While onsite, provide limited technical assistance including:

  • Assisting a designated user with reconnecting or configuring a workstation to an existing printer or scanner.
  • Verifying successful connectivity and functionality.
  • Escalating any significant technical issues to the project team.

Documentation Requirements

The technician will be expected to produce clear, organized, and professional documentation including:

  • Detailed site survey notes
  • Asset inventory spreadsheets
  • Equipment counts
  • Infrastructure observations
  • Facility access observations
  • Migration readiness notes
  • Identified risks and concerns
  • Organized photo documentation package
  • Recommendations for future lift-and-shift activities

All documentation should be accurate, concise, and suitable for engineering review and migration planning.
