Client is seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer & Support Specialist with strong IBM z/OS experience to design, develop, enhance, and support mission-critical mainframe applications. This role requires deep hands-on experience with COBOL, DB2, JCL, and CICS, along with production support, incident management, batch scheduling, and troubleshooting in enterprise mainframe environments.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, code, test, and deploy mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and DB2.
- Develop and maintain online CICS and batch processing systems.
- Work with VSAM files, DB2 databases, DB2 stored procedures, and SORT utilities.
- Support application modernization and system upgrade initiatives as needed.
- Provide L2/L3 production support for mainframe applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve batch failures, abends, data inconsistencies, and production issues.
- Support Tivoli Workload Scheduler batch job scheduling and monitoring.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive solutions.
- Handle incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Work with IBM MQ for message-based integrations.
- Support CICS transaction flows and troubleshoot transaction-related issues.
- Collaborate with distributed systems teams for end-to-end interface support.
- Use code management tools such as LCM or equivalent tools for version control, migration, and deployment.
- Manage code promotion across DEV, QA, and PROD environments.
- Maintain documentation and support audit compliance.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.
- Participate in release planning, code reviews, and design discussions.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies
- 8 years of experience in Mainframe Development & Support.
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM Mainframe z/OS environments.
- COBOL programming experience.
- DB2 and DB2 stored procedure experience.
- JCL experience.
- CICS experience.
- VSAM file handling experience.
- Tivoli Workload Scheduler experience.
- IBM MQ experience.
- SORT utility experience.
- LCM or equivalent code management tool experience.
- Strong production support experience.
- Experience troubleshooting complex system issues.
- Experience supporting incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
Preferred Skills or Experience
- Experience with Hogan Banking System.
- Exposure to mainframe modernization initiatives.
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Automation or scripting experience for batch or monitoring improvements.
- Experience in a 24/7 production support model.
- Experience with ZWDYL or similar framework/tools.
