Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced IBM Db2 Database & Platform Expert to assess, optimize, and enhance the IBM Db2 environment supporting our TruckMate Transportation Management System (TMS).
This role will focus on improving database performance, reliability, security, and operational efficiency across Windows and Linux environments. The selected candidate will identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimize database and infrastructure configurations, and support the migration of an existing customer's production Db2 database from Windows to Linux.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on IBM Db2 LUW expertise, strong Windows and Linux administration skills, and proven experience performing production database migrations while minimizing downtime and maintaining business continuity.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Performance Optimization
-
Assess the current IBM Db2 architecture, configuration, security, and operational support model supporting TruckMate.
-
Analyze and optimize SQL queries, execution plans, indexing, locking, deadlocks, schema design, tablespaces, buffer pools, memory allocation, logging, and database capacity.
-
Review and tune custom SQL queries based on application workflows and business requirements.
-
Optimize Db2 performance for high-volume transactional workloads, including dispatch, order management, billing, settlement, reporting, and system integrations.
-
Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, failed jobs, replication problems, storage limitations, backup and recovery failures, and availability concerns.
-
Establish database performance baselines, monitoring standards, and operational best practices.
Windows Server & Infrastructure Optimization
-
Evaluate and optimize Windows Server environments supporting Db2 databases.
-
Diagnose CPU utilization, memory pressure, disk I/O, storage latency, paging, file system, and network performance issues.
-
Review system configurations, service accounts, security settings, and antivirus exclusions.
-
Develop automated health checks, configuration validation, and backup verification processes using PowerShell or similar tools.
Windows-to-Linux Database Migration
-
Support the migration of an existing, live production IBM Db2 database from Windows to Linux.
-
Conduct migration readiness assessments covering application dependencies, custom SQL, scripts, authentication, integrations, scheduling, and backup processes.
-
Develop and execute migration strategies, testing plans, cutover procedures, rollback plans, and validation checklists.
-
Configure and optimize Linux environments for Db2, including storage, file systems, permissions, resource limits, networking, and service automation.
-
Validate database functionality, application performance, data integrity, and system availability before and after migration.
-
Ensure backup, recovery, monitoring, high availability, and disaster recovery capabilities are maintained or improved.
-
Provide post-migration troubleshooting, performance tuning, and stabilization support.
Technical Support & Documentation
-
Collaborate directly with IBM support and engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
-
Conduct root-cause analysis and recommend long-term solutions to improve database stability and performance.
-
Document technical findings, operational risks, configuration changes, and improvement recommendations.
-
Develop migration runbooks, operational procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.
-
Partner with internal application, database, infrastructure, and support teams to ensure successful implementation and ongoing support.
Required Qualifications
-
Extensive hands-on experience administering, supporting, and performance-tuning IBM Db2 LUW (Linux, UNIX, Windows) in enterprise production environments.
-
Advanced knowledge of Db2 database configuration, SQL performance tuning, indexing, execution plans, buffer pools, tablespaces, memory management, logging, statistics, and backup and recovery.
-
Strong Windows Server administration and performance-tuning experience, including CPU, memory, disk I/O, storage, networking, and system diagnostics.
-
Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation, troubleshooting, and operational monitoring.
-
Proven experience migrating an existing production IBM Db2 database from Windows to Linux, including data migration, application dependencies, testing, cutover, rollback, and post-migration support.
-
Strong Linux administration experience, including file systems, storage, permissions, user management, resource limits, networking, and service management.
-
Demonstrated experience working directly with IBM support and engineering, including the ability to manage and escalate complex technical issues.
-
Experience developing technical migration plans, operational runbooks, validation procedures, and disaster recovery strategies.
-
Strong troubleshooting, performance analysis, and root-cause investigation skills in business-critical production environments.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience supporting TruckMate or a comparable Transportation Management System (TMS).
-
Familiarity with transportation and logistics workflows, including dispatch, order management, rating, billing, settlement, EDI, telematics, and operational reporting.
-
Experience with Db2 high-availability and disaster-recovery technologies, including HADR, replication, clustering, or pureScale.
-
Experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).
-
Experience supporting 24/7 production environments and executing database migrations with minimal downtime.
-
IBM Db2, Linux, or related technical certifications.
Expected Deliverables
-
Comprehensive assessment of the current TruckMate Db2 database environment.
-
Prioritized recommendations addressing database performance, reliability, security, and operational risks.
-
Implementation of approved Windows Server and Db2 performance improvements.
-
Recommended Linux platform architecture and Db2 configuration standards.
-
