A well-established, mission-driven educational organization in New York's Capital Region is seeking a Senior Fund Accountant to join its leadership team. This is a highly visible role that works closely with executive leadership and plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of the organization's financial operations.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys digging into the details, takes ownership of their work, and is eager to contribute beyond the basic responsibilities of the position.

What You'll Do

  • Manage accounting activities across multiple funds, including general, capital, grant, and agency funds
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reports, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and reporting requirements
  • Oversee cash management, investments, and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Support annual audits and coordinate documentation for external auditors
  • Assist with grant accounting, financial reporting, and budget development
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to leadership
  • Maintain strong internal controls and safeguard organizational assets
  • Partner with leadership on special projects and continuous process improvements
  • Provide guidance and support to business office staff and stakeholders

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in nonprofit or public sector
  • Strong background in fund accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and regulatory compliance
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, reporting, and pivot tables
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical abilities
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Self-starter who demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a sense of urgency
