An established Dutchess County industrial equipment manufacturer is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of automated control systems for custom machinery and manufacturing equipment. This is a hands-on engineering role that combines technical leadership, project oversight, and direct involvement in machine controls and automation.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with complex electro-mechanical systems and industrial automation technologies in a manufacturing environment. This individual will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop reliable, efficient, and innovative control solutions while supporting multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical control systems for automated equipment
  • Create electrical schematics and support overall controls architecture
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and related automation systems
  • Support system integration, testing, commissioning, and production startup activities
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to support project objectives
  • Maintain project documentation, schedules, and engineering records
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency and quality
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety and industry standards

Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial automation, controls engineering, and custom equipment design
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming and electrical systems
  • Experience with HMI development and automated machinery
  • Familiarity with robotics and motion control systems is a plus
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team setting

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred
  • 6-10 years of related controls engineering or automation experience
