Rotoweld 3.0 Operator
Phoenix, AZ 85041

About the Role

This is a hands-on production role focused on operating the Rotoweld 3.0 automated pipe spool welding workstation. You will set up, load, and run the machine to produce high-quality, full-penetration 1G girth welds on industrial pipe spools and related components (typically 3" to 48" diameter range). The system uses advanced robotic torch positioning, vision/adaptive control (including PerfectPass-iQ technology), and processes such as GMAW (MIG) for root passes, with options for fill passes using GMAW, FCAW, or other qualified processes. The role emphasizes efficient throughput, consistent quality, and safe operation of this high-productivity automated cell.

What You'll Do

Rotoweld 3.0 Operation

  • Set up and operate the Rotoweld 3.0 workstation according to work orders, drawings, and welding procedures (WPS).
  • Load, position, align, and secure pipe spools and components into the rotator/support system for accurate welding.
  • Select and run appropriate programs; monitor and adjust parameters (including via the system's adaptive controls and vision systems) for root, fill, and cap passes as required.
  • Ensure proper joint preparation, fit-up, and alignment before initiating automated welding cycles.
  • Monitor the welding process in real time, verify weld quality (penetration, consistency, appearance), and make necessary adjustments or reworks.
  • Perform root-pass (typically GMAW short-circuit) and fill/cap operations efficiently to maximize arc-on time and daily diameter-inch output.
  • Unload completed spools, inspect welds against acceptance criteria, and document production as required.
  • Perform routine pre-use checks, basic maintenance, and housekeeping on the Rotoweld cell; report issues promptly.

Supporting Duties

  • Assist with material handling, positioning (using appropriate lifting equipment as qualified), and joint preparation.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, and work instructions.
  • Collaborate with fitters, supervisors, and other welders to maintain production flow and quality.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and machine-specific procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of pipe fabrication and shop operations.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of production welding and/or automated/robotic welding machine operation experience in a fabrication environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate automated or robotic welding equipment (Rotoweld or similar pipe/spool welding systems strongly preferred).
  • Basic understanding of pipe welding processes (especially GMAW/MIG) and weld quality requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
  • Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and quality.

Preferred

  • Hands-on experience with Rotoweld 3.0 or similar automated pipe welding cells.
  • Experience with industrial pipe spool fabrication, 1G girth welds, or pressure-related work.
  • Familiarity with GMAW root passes and fill processes (including FCAW or related).
  • Exposure to carbon steel and stainless steel pipe.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, forklifts, or material handling equipment.
  • OSHA 10 or similar safety training.
  • Experience in a custom industrial fabrication environment.
