Nesco Resource is now hiring Roll Tenders in Lebanon Junction.
A Roll Tender is a key support role in a printing press operation and is responsible for preparing and managing paper rolls, so the press can run continuously without stopping for manual loading.
Why it matters:
Without a roll tender, the press would need frequent manual loading, which would slow production and risk quality issues. The roll tender ensures smooth, uninterrupted printing by keeping paper supply ready, properly aligned, and in good condition. In short, a roll tender is the "paper manager” of the press, ensuring the right roll is in place, ready to feed, and maintained for optimal print quality and speed.
Main responsibilities include:

  • Loading and preparing paper rolls onto the press's automatic splicing unit or feeder. This involves inspecting rolls for blemishes or tears, cutting away damaged areas, and threading the paper through press components
  • Setting up the splicer so the press can automatically feed a continuous stream of paper, eliminating the need to pause for manual roll changes
  • Aligning and securing rolls so they feed smoothly into the press, adjusting tension as needed to prevent jams or misfeeds
  • Preparing backup rolls for automatic splicing, applying adhesive strips, and inserting them into the splicer
  • Removing leftover rolls after a run and cleaning press components to maintain performance
  • Assisting with adjustments and other press setup tasks, including plate mounting, ink handling, and quality checks
  • Performing maintenance such as cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting press parts to keep the machine running efficiently
  • May operate a pallet jack to move and/or transport materials.
  • Performing others duties as assigned.

Key Skills and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of machinery
  • Attention to detail with the ability to read and understand written job instructions.
  • Basic math skills for measuring, adjusting, and tracking production
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to follow directions, collaborate, and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and work in a safe and efficient manner

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with web offset printing presses, paper roll handling equipment, and basic press maintenance (preferred)
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience operating production equipment

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must use roll shaft assist device when moving the roll shaft.
  • Standing on concrete floors 8-12 hours per shift
  • Walking, carrying, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
  • Working around machinery moving at high productions speeds.
  • Must be able to tolerate loud noise levels and occasional exposure to atmospheric conditions and other environmental factors.
  • Constant use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required due to the nature of the work environment.
