QA Microbiology Laboratory Technician

Position Overview

We are seeking a QA Microbiology Laboratory Technician to support quality assurance activities within a manufacturing facility. The QA laboratory is located directly inside the manufacturing environment, and this position will be responsible for collecting, preparing, and analyzing microbiological samples to ensure products and manufacturing processes meet established quality and safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on laboratory and microbiology experience, preferably within a food, beverage, or manufacturing environment, along with a strong understanding of GMP and safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and prepare microbiological samples from manufacturing and production areas.
  • Perform microbiological analysis of:
    • Packaged products
    • Water samples
    • Packaging and processing areas
    • Sugar tanks
  • Plate microbiological samples and perform routine laboratory testing.
  • Maintain, clean, and sanitize the microbiology laboratory and laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare microbiological materials and maintain laboratory samples.
  • Accurately document and record microbiological analysis results.
  • Monitor test results and report quality issues or non-conformances to appropriate department personnel.
  • Assist with investigations related to microbiological or quality non-conformances.
  • Follow established GMP, laboratory, quality, and safety procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
  • Assist the QA Manager with laboratory projects, audits, QA data analysis, and other quality-related activities as needed.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and QA personnel to support product quality and food safety objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with microbiological testing and sample preparation.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, documentation, and safe work practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment and follow established GMP and safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of practical, hands-on laboratory, production, or manufacturing experience.
  • Previous experience in a food or beverage manufacturing/processing environment.
  • Previous experience working in a QA or QC department.
  • Experience with microbiological plating, sample collection, and microbiological analysis.
  • Experience working under GMP requirements.
  • Experience with quality investigations, audits, and non-conformance reporting.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on laboratory professional who is comfortable working directly within a manufacturing environment. They should be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of accurately performing microbiological testing while maintaining strict GMP, quality, and safety standards.

Experience in beverage manufacturing, food processing, or another regulated manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
