Senior Python / Azure Integration Engineer – VM Refactor & Application Modernization
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Python / Azure Integration Engineer to support the modernization and refactoring of an existing virtual-machine-based application and integration environment.
The individual will be responsible for analyzing the existing environment, refactoring legacy Python-based processes and integrations, migrating appropriate workloads from the existing virtual machine architecture into an Azure Function App, and establishing a more maintainable, automated, and observable application environment.
This role requires strong hands-on experience with Python development, Azure, REST APIs, cloud integrations, data movement, source control, application deployment, and production monitoring. The ideal candidate is comfortable working within an existing codebase and integration ecosystem and can translate a current-state architecture into a cleaner, cloud-oriented target state.
Key Responsibilities

Analyze the existing virtual machine-based application and integration environment and understand current workflows, dependencies, scheduled processes, scripts, and data flows.

Review and refactor existing Python code and Python-based automation.

Migrate appropriate application functionality from the existing VM environment into Azure Function App architecture.

Develop and maintain Python-based serverless functions and supporting application components.

Work with existing R scripts, MySQL databases, SFTP processes, and file-based data exchanges as part of the modernization effort.

Develop reliable data ingestion, transformation, processing, and export workflows.

Refactor legacy integrations while maintaining required business functionality and data integrity.

Work with RaaS REST APIs and other application-specific APIs where required by the target architecture.

Manage and maintain source code using GitHub.

Establish or support automated code deployment from GitHub into the Azure environment.

Implement appropriate error handling, logging, exception management, and retry mechanisms.

Configure and utilize Azure Application Insights for application monitoring and troubleshooting.

Develop and configure alerting/notification rules for application failures, integration issues, and other operational events.

Troubleshoot application, API, integration, and data-processing failures.

Document application architecture, integrations, dependencies, deployment processes, and operational procedures.

Coordinate with technical stakeholders to validate functionality during the transition from the current state to the target state.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is not simply a Python developer. They should be an experienced Python/Azure integration engineer who can look at an existing VM-hosted environment, understand how the various integrations and scheduled processes work, and methodically transform that environment into a more modern Azure-based architecture.
The candidate should be comfortable working across the entire application lifecycle—from code analysis and refactoring through API integration, Azure deployment, GitHub-based code management, testing, monitoring, alerting, and production support.
Experience with the specific systems shown in the architecture is highly valuable, particularly Adaptive Insights, Workday/RaaS, Salesforce, Azure Blob Storage, REST APIs, MySQL, SFTP, Python, GitHub, Azure Functions, and Application Insights.

Engagement Summary
This position is best suited for a Senior-level Python/Azure engineer capable of taking ownership of an existing integration environment and helping transition it from a VM-centric architecture to a more modern, cloud-based application model.
