Be the Technical Authority Behind Complex Industrial Electrical Systems.

We're partnering with an established industrial manufacturer seeking a Principal Engineer to provide senior technical leadership for electrical and controls systems used in custom-engineered equipment.

This is a high-level, hands-on engineering role for someone who has developed deep expertise in industrial electrical systems and can serve as the technical resource for complex design decisions, customer requirements, engineering standards, and difficult technical problems.

You'll work across Engineering, Applications, Estimating, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations to evaluate requirements, review designs, solve complex electrical and controls challenges, and establish engineering practices that improve quality and consistency.

This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants to have significant technical influence without leaving engineering for a management role.

What You'll Do

Electrical & Controls Engineering

  • Provide senior technical expertise for the design and integration of industrial electrical and control systems

  • Evaluate customer specifications, project requirements, and applicable standards to determine appropriate electrical and controls solutions

  • Review complex electrical schematics, control drawings, and system designs for technical accuracy and compliance

  • Provide technical direction on power distribution, protection and control, control panels, automation, and electrical equipment integration

  • Identify technical risks and design issues early and recommend practical solutions

  • Support complex troubleshooting, equipment integration, testing, and commissioning activities

Industrial Power & Electrical Systems

  • Apply advanced knowledge of industrial power distribution and electrical systems

  • Provide technical guidance involving electrical distribution, protection, motor systems, transformers, switchgear, and related equipment

  • Evaluate electrical protection and control requirements for industrial applications

  • Support the integration of electrical equipment with industrial controls and automation systems

  • Assist engineering teams with technically complex electrical design decisions

  • Evaluate new technologies and engineering approaches that can improve system performance, reliability, and manufacturability

Engineering Standards & Design Quality

  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, design practices, and technical guidelines

  • Develop standardized design tools, templates, and review processes

  • Review engineering designs and documentation prior to production release

  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency, consistency, and repeatability

  • Investigate design issues and support root-cause and corrective-action efforts

  • Help ensure engineering practices remain aligned with customer requirements and applicable industry standards

Codes, Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure electrical and controls designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications

  • Apply requirements associated with NEC / NFPA 70

  • Apply NFPA 79 requirements where applicable

  • Maintain familiarity with UL 508A requirements for industrial control panels

  • Review designs for electrical safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance

  • Stay current with changes to applicable electrical and industrial standards

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a technical resource to Engineering, Applications, Estimating, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations

  • Help teams resolve complex electrical and controls issues throughout the project lifecycle

  • Review technical requirements and help identify potential design or execution risks

  • Balance engineering requirements with cost, manufacturability, schedule, quality, and customer expectations

  • Communicate technical recommendations clearly to both engineering and non-engineering personnel

‍ Mentorship & Engineering Development

  • Mentor engineers and designers on complex electrical and controls applications

  • Provide technical feedback and guidance to strengthen engineering capabilities

  • Help establish consistent engineering practices across the organization

  • Participate in design reviews and technical problem-solving sessions

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within Engineering and Manufacturing

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

Significant professional experience designing and supporting industrial electrical and/or controls systems

Strong experience with industrial electrical systems and power distribution
