Position Description:
Responsible for the systematic inspection, evaluation, and analysis of production and customer-returned product to identify failure modes and determine root causes. Supports continuous improvement initiatives by generating accurate, data-driven findings that inform multifunctional team consisting of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections on production and customer returned units to assess the nature and extent of defects or failures.
- Identify recurring issues and escalate complex failures to Product Quality Manager.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Procurement teams to communicate findings and support the development of corrective and preventive actions.
- Operate and maintain measuring and test equipment (calipers, micrometers, CMM, gauges, torque tools, etc.)
- Review and inspect Device History Records to ensure document accuracy, verify that product quality meets standards and proposes release of the product for distribution.
- Assist Technical Returns Evaluation Manager with development or revision of repair procedures and work instructions.
- Participate in Lean or continuous improvement initiatives to reduce turnaround time and defects.
- Performs Internal Quality Systems Audits.
- Ensures compliance with Department procedures.
- Analyzes and interacts with areas related to KPIs such as: First-Pass-Yield, defect/complaint trends, audit findings, CAPA effectiveness evaluations, etc.
Work Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a quality, manufacturing, or product inspection role.
- Prior experience with RMA processes and root cause analysis methodologies strongly preferred.
Core Skills Requirements:
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM).
- Working knowledge of ERP systems for logging and tracking (experience with Epicor or similar a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Advanced Excel skills, able to analyze data and build complex reports and graphics.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and product specifications.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, 13485, or equivalent.
