We're partnering with an established industrial manufacturer seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a Professional Engineer (PE) license to support the design of custom industrial equipment, structural assemblies, and fabricated metal products.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on turning engineering requirements into practical, manufacturable designs. You'll work with structural steel, sheet metal, fabricated assemblies, equipment supports, and custom industrial structures, while performing the calculations needed to ensure designs can withstand real-world operating and environmental conditions.

The ideal engineer understands that successful design doesn't stop at the computer. You'll work closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams to develop designs that are structurally sound, practical to build, and ready for production.


What You'll Own

Mechanical & Structural Design

  • Design custom industrial equipment, structural assemblies, frames, supports, platforms, enclosures, and related fabricated components.

  • Design with structural steel and formed sheet metal, including fabricated panels and assemblies.

  • Develop 3D models, detailed engineering drawings, and fabrication documentation.

  • Select appropriate materials, structural members, fasteners, welds, hardware, and other components.

  • Design equipment and structures to account for mounting, support, lifting, transportation, and operating requirements.

  • Evaluate how components and assemblies interact within the overall equipment design.

  • Maintain accurate BOMs, drawings, models, and engineering documentation.

Engineering Calculations & Structural Analysis

  • Perform structural calculations to verify the integrity and performance of equipment and fabricated structures.

  • Evaluate wind, snow, rain, dead, live, equipment, lifting, transportation, and other applicable loads.

  • Determine appropriate structural members, material thicknesses, connections, and support arrangements.

  • Evaluate equipment foundations, mounting points, frames, skids, and structural supports.

  • Apply engineering judgment to identify potential design issues before equipment reaches production.

  • Use applicable engineering and structural analysis tools to validate designs when needed.

  • Review engineering work for accuracy, safety, manufacturability, and code compliance.

CAD & Engineering Documentation

  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and production-ready engineering drawings.

  • Develop drawings that clearly communicate dimensions, materials, tolerances, weld requirements, and fabrication details.

  • Produce drawings suitable for structural steel, sheet metal, welding, machining, and assembly operations.

  • Use CAD and engineering software to support mechanical and structural design activities.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, Advance Steel, SolidWorks, or comparable software is valuable.

  • Maintain accurate revisions, models, drawings, BOMs, and engineering records.

Manufacturing & Fabrication Support

  • Work directly with manufacturing and fabrication personnel throughout the design process.

  • Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to create practical, buildable designs.

  • Understand how welding, press brakes, sheet metal forming, cutting, and other fabrication processes affect design decisions.

  • Provide engineering support when production encounters drawing, fabrication, or assembly challenges.

  • Recommend design changes that improve manufacturability, quality, cost, and efficiency.

  • Participate in design reviews and help resolve issues from engineering through production.

Project & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and other teams throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Translate customer requirements, specifications, and project criteria into workable engineering solutions.

  • Communicate technical requirements clearly to both engineering and manufacturing personnel.

  • Support design changes and engineering revisions as project requirements evolve.

  • Provide technical input related to quality, cost, schedule, manufacturability, and performance.

  • Take ownership of assigned engineering projects and drive designs through completion.

Codes, Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure designs meet applicable engineering standards, customer requirements, and project specifications.

  • Apply appropriate structural, mechanical, fabrication, and safety requirements to engineering designs.

  • Working knowledge of standards such as IBC, AISC, AWS, OSHA, and other applicable industry codes is beneficial.

  • Review designs for structural integrity and compliance before release to production.

  • Maintain engineering documentation supporting calculations, design decisions, and revisions.

  • Stay current with applicable engineering standards and requirements.


What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Professional experience designing mechanical equipment, structural assemblies, fabricated products, or similar industrial applications.

  • Strong understanding of engineering calculations and structural loading.

  • Ability to develop and interpret detailed engineering and fabrication drawings.

  • Ability to work effectively with manufacturing, fabrication, and cross-functional teams.

Experience that can translate especially well to this role includes:

  • Structural steel design and engineering.

  • Steel building or industrial structure design.

  • Fabricated equipment, skids, frames, platforms, or support structures.

  • Sheet metal design, particularly heavier-gauge fabricated enclosures and panels.

  • Experience accounting for snow, wind, rain, equipment, and other environmental or operational loads.

  • Understanding of welding, press brakes, forming, cutting, and other metal fabrication processes.

  • Structural calculations and analysis.

  • Experience with power distribution or electrical equipment layouts is a plus.

Work Environment

This position is based in an industrial manufacturing environment with regular interaction between engineering and production teams. The role combines engineering and design work with exposure to an active manufacturing facility, including structural steel and sheet metal fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly operations.
