This position will independently lead product designs from concept through launch, with an emphasis on performance, reliability, and innovation. Applying strong knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes to develop creative, effective design solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform medium- to high-complexity product design for NPI or PLE projects, driving innovation throughout the design process.
  • Analyze existing designs and products to identify improvements, cost-reduction opportunities, and troubleshooting solutions.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineers to provide PCB mechanical dimensions, packaging requirements, and keep-out zones, ensuring PCBAs integrate seamlessly with mechanical designs.
  • Research and identify optimal materials, processes, and technologies to meet product performance criteria.
  • Read and interpret regulatory codes and standards with minimal guidance; attend relevant codes and standards activities as needed and report findings.
  • Incorporate internal and external customer input into product design and development.
  • Develop product design specifications, DFMEAs, and DVP&Rs.
  • Perform virtual simulations and design of experiments (DOE) to validate design direction.
  • Perform or oversee prototype testing to verify design performance and robustness.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and/or the Engineering Manager to maintain tooling budgets and product cost targets.
  • Maintain system databases by entering and updating required data and project status information.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, manufacturing, and quality engineers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs.
  • Follow established procedures and recommend improvements based on trending data and lessons learned.
  • Make technical decisions, including purchasing prototype components, while managing the established budget.
  • Apply engineering economic analysis to support decision-making for raw material selection and product design.
  • Complete assigned projects and assist in training and guiding technicians.
  • Contribute to team goals and support overall project success.
Qualifications:
  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently lead product design from concept through launch.
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Knowledge of engineering materials, including aluminum, copper, brass, and plastics, as well as fabrication techniques such as injection molding, die stamping, casting, sheet metal bending, and various assembly methods.
  • Proficient in advanced 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks, and basic FEA using simulation tools for stress, force, and motion analysis; knowledgeable in CAD data management and revision control.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques for fabrication, manual, and automated production lines; design for manufacturability; and ability to support manufacturing plants as needed.
  • Basic project management skills; results-driven with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Takes initiative and demonstrates a proactive approach.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required, Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical product design; consumer product or electromechanical product design experience preferred.
  • Experience with printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronics packaging preferred.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and validation testing methodologies.
  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and production methods.
  • Experience with design, prototyping, and material selection evaluation.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and drafting; SolidWorks preferred.
