Mechanical Design Engineer
Summary
A growing engineering and manufacturing organization is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of both standard product lines and custom automated machinery solutions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges and developing innovative design solutions for unique customer applications.
The position involves assisting in the development, preparation, and completion of engineering drawings and layouts related to industrial material handling and conveyor systems. Candidates should have experience with Autodesk design software, including AutoCAD (2D), Inventor (3D), and document management tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Machine Design & Engineering
- Develop mechanical designs and concepts based on project requirements
- Coordinate project timelines with engineering and project management teams
- Gather and interpret customer specifications, dimensions, and technical requirements
- Create assembly and detail drawings efficiently and accurately
- Support drawing review and release processes
- Monitor equipment throughout manufacturing and assembly processes
- Update drawings to reflect as-built changes and revisions
General Engineering Responsibilities
- Design systems and equipment that meet or exceed customer expectations
- Assist in maintaining effective communication between engineering, manufacturing, and project teams
- Prepare plant and system layout drawings as needed
Qualifications
To perform successfully in this role, candidates should possess the following:
Education & Experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of mechanical design experience, preferably within industrial equipment or material handling environments
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Technical Skills
General Computer Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
- Comfortable working within Windows-based environments
CAD & Design Software Experience
- Experience using Autodesk software for engineering drafting and design
- Ability to create and modify 2D drawings in AutoCAD
- Experience designing 3D machine components using Autodesk Inventor
- Familiarity with Vault, iParts, and Content Center functionality is highly desirable
- Experience with sheet metal design tools preferred
- Experience with SolidWorks will also be considered
