The Mayo Line Overwrap Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining overwrapping and packaging equipment on the mayonnaise production line. This position ensures finished products are packaged accurately, safely, and efficiently while meeting company quality, food safety, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate overwrap machines and related packaging equipment on the mayonnaise production line.
- Monitor packaging operations to ensure proper wrapping, sealing, coding, and package appearance.
- Perform equipment setup, adjustments, and changeovers to accommodate various product sizes and packaging specifications.
- Conduct quality inspections to verify package integrity, label accuracy, date coding, and product appearance.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical and operational issues to minimize downtime.
- Remove defective products and packaging materials from the production line.
- Maintain required production records, downtime logs, and quality documentation.
- Ensure continuous material supply to the overwrap equipment, including film, labels, and packaging materials.
- Work closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to resolve operational issues.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP requirements, and company food safety standards.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation activities on packaging equipment and work areas.
- Participate in line startup, shutdown, and product changeover activities.
- Maintain compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- Previous manufacturing, food processing, or packaging experience preferred.
- Experience operating overwrapping, cartoning, or automated packaging equipment is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to operate packaging machinery safely and efficiently.
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and production schedules.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Basic math and documentation skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequent walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive motions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to work around moving machinery and packaging equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
- Food manufacturing and packaging facility.
- Exposure to production noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
- May require overtime, weekend work, and flexible schedules based on production needs.
