Job Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory and preparing kits of materials for production. This position ensures production employees have the correct parts and materials available to support efficient manufacturing operations while maintaining inventory accuracy and an organized work area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform cycle counts of raw materials, components, and finished goods to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies between physical counts and inventory records.
  • Assemble production kits according to kit sheets and production requirements.
  • Label, organize, and stage kits for production use.
  • Receive, organize, and store incoming materials in designated locations.
  • Identify and report damaged materials, shortages, and inventory discrepancies to the Production Control Supervisor.
  • Maintain inventory and kitting areas using 5S principles.
  • Ensure frequently used materials are organized for efficient access.
  • Record inventory transactions and material movements accurately in the inventory system and Excel tracking sheets.
  • Perform basic visual inspections of materials for quality before issuing to production.
  • Assist with inventory replenishment and support lean manufacturing initiatives, including Kanban and Just-in-Time material flow.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • 1–3 years of inventory control, warehouse, material handling, or kitting experience preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Forklift certification required; trainer certification is a plus.

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic math skills, including counting, weighing, and unit conversions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to identify inventory discrepancies and assist with problem resolution.
  • Knowledge of 5S, Kanban, and lean manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, crouch, and reach throughout the shift.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, gloves, sleeves, and long pants.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/shop floor environment.
  • Exposure to machinery, noise, and seasonal temperature changes.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs.
