JOB SUMMARY:
Performs line changeovers, tooling replacements and setups correctly in order to decrease in-line defects, including changing documents and gauges. Provides support to Production Dept. to troubleshoot machining issues. Performs rework and train others to assist. Maintains 5S of Set-Up and Changeover components. Conducts line-side training with goal to increase technical knowledge of production team members and leaders and their ability to respond to minor machine and process issues. Works closely with others and maintains a positive attitude toward teamwork, safety, and quality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains strong attendance; knows and follows Company policies as directed by the Employee Handbook, the Safety Rules and Regulations, and the Quality Manual.
2. Performs changeovers and setups correctly and promptly to minimize impact on production downtime. Work may be performed independently or as part of a team. Changes all tools, jigs, and fixtures in all primary assigned machines.
3. Instructs Production Leaders to verify changeovers.
4. Ensures gages placed line-side are all present, functional, and in calibration. May assist in monitoring critical part quality features as necessary to reduce scrap.
5. Sets up exchangeable tooling as needed. Assists Production by preparing tooling for anticipated tool changes.
6. Performs qualification and tool changes for broaches in conjunction with QC Dept. & Production.
7. Recognizes and assists with process abnormalities and verifying part quality. Can train Production how find and adjust to bring part back into specification.
8. Assists in identifying and improving in-line process improvements and decreasing in-line process-related defective parts. Suggest ideas for tooling, fixturing, pokeyoke, and improved programming.
9. Strives to improve the efficiency of changeover / setup; i.e., shortening the time necessary to complete. Suggest ideas for improved work holding
10. Monitors critical tool life to ensure full usage and periodic tool changes are performed correctly.
11. Performs minor edits within established G-code programs, programming set points, and parameters.
12. Adjusts programming speeds/feeds to reduce chatter, adjust work zero position, and adjust taper.
13. May assist Engineering during new tool trials. Monitor line daily to ensure tool is working and quality is maintained.
14. Assists Engineers and Maintenance with equipment alarms, machine repairs, and crash recovery. Zero the machine, replace broken tooling, and verify quality.
15. Responds to calls for assistance from Production. Uses these opportunities to provide training. Assists in getting line running.
16. Performs rework activities and train others to assist in rework. Perform rework using manual or line side equipment.
17. Audits line-side documentation for accuracy and communicates feedback on Process Control Charts (PCC), Operation Sheets (OS), and Standard Operation Sheets (SOS). Communicates known problems.
18. Assists Production by operating lines when short on Client or skill set.
19. Instructs and assists Production with TPM checks when available or as needed.
20. Monitors and assists production and maintenance with coolant concentration system & settings.
21. Performs and assists in kaizen activities using maintenance shop equipment. Basic use of lathe, mill, saws, and welder.
22. Checks and assists in monitoring tool crib inventory cycle counting.
23. Assists Engineering with new product launches or design changes.
24. Collects engineering data such as but not limited to; CPK study, engineering process changes, machine cycle time, motion analysis, capacity planning, tooling design, ergonomics, process layout, cost reduction, etc. as directed by Engineering.
25. Maintains open lines of communications between the Production Department and Engineering, Quality Control, and Management staff.
26. All other duties required of the job and requested by a member of the Management Team.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
No supervisory responsibility over others. However, strong work ethics and high moral values are attributes sought after for this position and for higher-level positions within the department and the Company.
Skills/Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS : ( TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION)
High School Diploma or GED (Additional job-related training preferred, such as technical courses, certifications, seminars).
Three years of previous factory / manufacturing experience with CNC equipment preferred.
Above average math and reasoning ability.
Above average communication skills both verbal and written.
Basic computer skills in MS Office software (Word, Excel and Access).
Basic mechanical knowledge preferred.
Basic understanding of machine programming preferred.
Strong ability to train others and work in a team-oriented environment.
Able to adhere to a strict safety regimen and maintain a safety-conscious environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:
Ability to remain stationary for 6 to 10 hours at a time; Ability to maneuver around the plant; repeatedly bend, squat, move both arms above the head, and move head straight up and down and side to side; Good hand strength with steady movement, good finger dexterity, repeatedly able to grasp small and large objects and rotate wrists, arms, and shoulders; Good eyesight, hearing, and speaking voice; and ability to lift between 10-40 lbs.
