Position Summary
We are seeking a Metal Shop Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team. The Metal Shop operates a variety of equipment used to fabricate metal components.
Equipment includes punch presses, shears, press brakes, spot welders, coil lines, laser cutters, roll-forming equipment, and other metal fabrication machinery.
Parts are manufactured to customer specifications and may be finished, transferred to the paint department, spot welded, or sent to welding for additional operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and position metal materials onto machine tables and equipment
- Operate machinery to cut, punch, notch, bend, form, and fabricate metal components
- Insert hardware into finished or partially finished products
- Feed metal sheets and materials into rolling and forming machines
- Inspect parts visually and measure products for conformance to specifications
- Read and reference drawings when required
- Complete quality inspections and accurately report results
- Complete daily production reports
- Operate and train on various Metal Shop equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Properly dispose of scrap metal
- Follow all company policies and safety procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous manufacturing or related work experience preferred
- Metal fabrication or machine operating experience is a plus
- Shear operator experience is a plus
- Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting/problem-solving skills preferred
- Ability to read and interpret basic manufacturing drawings
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure, including decimals and fractions
- Good communication, writing, listening, and instruction-following skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Willingness to learn and operate different types of manufacturing equipment
- Willingness to train on equipment such as forklifts and loading/unloading equipment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, reach, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods
- Ability to safely handle and position metal materials
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and follow required safety procedures
