Machine Operator
Position Summary
The Machine Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating production equipment used to manufacture pressed wood products. This position monitors the production process, ensures materials are properly positioned and processed, performs quality inspections, and makes routine machine adjustments to maintain production, quality, and safety standards.
Essential Functions
- Operate and monitor pressed wood production machinery according to established procedures and production specifications.
- Load, position, and feed wood, laminate, adhesive, and other production materials into the machine.
- Set machine controls, guides, pressure, temperature, speed, and other operating parameters as required.
- Monitor equipment throughout the production process and make routine adjustments to maintain consistent production.
- Inspect finished products for proper dimensions, bonding, appearance, alignment, and overall quality.
- Identify and correct basic machine issues, jams, misfeeds, and production inconsistencies.
- Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance as required.
- Use measuring tools and gauges to verify product specifications.
- Read and follow work orders, production schedules, blueprints, specifications, and operating instructions.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Safely operate material-handling equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts, when authorized.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and quality procedures.
- Communicate equipment, material, and quality issues to the Supervisor or Maintenance team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating manufacturing or production machinery preferred.
- Experience with wood products, laminating, woodworking, furniture, cabinetry, or similar manufacturing is a plus.
- Ability to read and understand work instructions and production specifications.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot routine machine issues.
- Ability to use basic measuring tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work a production schedule.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and lift.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier materials.
- Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, noise, dust, adhesives, and wood products while following required safety procedures.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on manufacturing position performed in a production environment. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment. The work environment may include exposure to machinery, wood dust, noise, adhesives, and varying temperatures.
