Class "A Laser Operator

Position Overview

The Class "A Laser Operator is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating laser cutting machines to manufacture precision parts that meet strict customer quality and production specifications. This role requires technical competence in CNC editing, material identification, and quality inspection within a fast-paced metal fabrication environment.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Machine Setup & Operation

  • Laser Operation: Efficiently execute laser cutting operations per technical specifications and monitor machine performance continuously.

  • Setup & Technical Execution: Retrieve programs and set up machines properly, including selecting the correct assist gases, nozzles, and cutting parameters. Follow standard startup and shutdown procedures.

  • Program & Data Management: Read data accurately and make real-time CNC program edits at the machine controller to optimize cuts.

  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform minor repairs and routine preventative maintenance on laser equipment; identify and communicate machinery or quality issues to management immediately.

Quality Assurance & Logistics

  • Material Verification: Read material sheet tags to accurately identify metal types, gauges, and specifications.

  • Inspection: Apply part-checking concepts and utilize precision measurement tools to inspect finished products against customer blueprints.

  • Production Tracking: Accurately count, log, and record daily production data and inventory activity.

  • Workflow Execution: Interpret and follow the foreman's production report, adhering to project priorities, start dates, and schedules.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Fabrication Knowledge: Solid understanding of industrial metal fabrication concepts, processes, and tolerances.

  • Blueprint Reading: Strong ability to interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled in operating overhead cranes, calipers, tape measures, hand tools, and torches.

  • Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with team members and leadership.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to regularly lift, move, and handle heavy metal parts and sheets safely.

  • Work Style: Exceptional attention to detail, high stress tolerance, and a reliable, trustworthy work ethic.

Education & Experience

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Vocational or technical training in CNC machining or manufacturing is highly preferred.
