We are seeking an experienced Group Leader to oversee multiple production lines within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for leading approximately 2–3 production lines with 20 employees per line, working through Production Line Leaders and production associates to achieve safety, quality, productivity, and operational goals.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader with strong experience in production operations, employee coaching, continuous improvement, and driving performance in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the daily operations of 2–3 production lines, supporting approximately 40–60 production employees through Production Line Leaders.
- Ensure production goals are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of safety, food safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Production Line Leaders and production associates to build a high-performing team.
- Monitor daily production metrics and identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce downtime, and eliminate waste.
- Coordinate production start-ups, product changeovers, and equipment shutdowns.
- Ensure all production schedules are completed on time and in the most efficient manner.
- Verify that quality inspections and production documentation are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Ensure raw materials, packaging, and supplies are available to support uninterrupted production.
- Troubleshoot production issues and collaborate with maintenance and leadership teams to minimize downtime.
- Support equipment reliability by assisting with autonomous maintenance activities, equipment inspections, and minor adjustments when necessary.
- Promote and enforce all safety, food safety, GMP, sanitation, and quality standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing, 6S, Kaizen, and waste reduction efforts.
- Communicate production performance, shift updates, and operational issues to leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Foster employee engagement, accountability, teamwork, and a positive work environment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3–5 years of manufacturing leadership experience, preferably in a food or consumer packaged goods manufacturing environment.
- Experience supervising multiple production lines and leading large production teams.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop frontline leaders and hourly employees.
- Strong understanding of production processes, quality systems, safety practices, and continuous improvement principles.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and manufacturing systems such as SAP or similar ERP software is preferred.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze production data and make informed operational decisions.
- Demonstrated leadership in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on concrete floors.
- Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to climb ladders and work around manufacturing equipment as needed.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends based on production demands.
Preferred Experience
- Food manufacturing experience.
- Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or Continuous Improvement experience.
- Experience leading shift operations across multiple production lines.
- Experience with GMP, HACCP, food safety, and quality systems.
