Perform fiber optic testing on MPO/MTP-to-LC connections in a data center or similar mission-critical environment.
-
Utilize a Fluke Networks fiber certification/tester capable of supporting MPO/MTP and LC connectivity.
-
Perform testing of individual fiber strands/lights within MPO/MTP assemblies.
-
Verify fiber performance against applicable testing parameters and customer requirements.
-
Test for issues including, as applicable:
-
Insertion loss
-
Optical loss
-
Return loss
-
Polarity
-
Continuity
-
Fiber mapping
-
Overall link performance
-
-
Ensure proper test reference procedures are followed before testing.
-
Inspect and clean fiber connectors prior to testing as required.
-
Correctly identify and document each tested fiber, port, connector, and/or circuit.
-
Maintain accurate test records and ensure individual light/fiber results are captured and traceable.
-
Generate and export test results into PDF test reports using the Fluke test equipment/software.
-
Review test results for failures, marginal readings, or anomalies and identify connections requiring remediation or retesting.
-
Provide completed test documentation to the project team for customer/IT department review.
-
Maintain organized electronic records of all test results.
-
Follow all data center safety, security, access, and operational procedures.
-
Work carefully around active data center infrastructure and other mission-critical equipment.
-
Communicate testing status, failures, and issues to the Project Manager or onsite customer representative.
Required Qualifications & Experience
-
2 years of hands-on fiber optic testing/certification experience, preferably within a data center, telecommunications, network infrastructure, or similar environment.
-
Demonstrated experience testing MPO/MTP fiber connections and LC connections.
-
Hands-on experience using Fluke Networks fiber certification/test equipment.
-
Must understand how to configure and properly utilize fiber test equipment for MPO/MTP-to-LC testing.
-
Experience testing and documenting individual fibers/strands within MPO/MTP assemblies.
-
Ability to interpret fiber test results and identify pass/fail conditions.
-
Experience producing professional electronic test documentation, preferably PDF certification reports.
-
Strong understanding of fiber polarity, connector types, fiber mapping, insertion loss, and optical performance.
-
Ability to accurately track ports, fibers, circuits, and associated test results.
-
Experience working in data centers or other controlled/mission-critical environments is strongly preferred.
-
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
-
Ability to work independently and complete testing assignments according to established procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Fluke Networks certification or formal training on applicable Fluke fiber testing equipment.
-
Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certification, such as CFOT, or equivalent fiber certification.
-
Experience with MTP/MPO trunk cables, cassettes, modules, harnesses, and breakout assemblies.
-
Experience working with high-density fiber infrastructure within hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, or telecommunications data centers.
-
Knowledge of single-mode and multimode fiber systems.
-
Familiarity with TIA/ISO fiber testing and certification standards.
-
Experience with Fluke LinkWare or comparable test-result management/reporting software.
-
Experience troubleshooting failed fiber links and performing retests following remediation.
Equipment Requirements
Technician must be capable of supplying or operating the appropriate Fluke Networks fiber certification equipment required for the project.
The testing platform must be capable of:
-
Supporting MPO/MTP-to-LC testing.
-
Testing individual fibers within an MPO/MTP connection.
-
Capturing individual fiber/light test results.
-
Identifying the tested ports and fiber positions.
-
Recording pass/fail results and applicable optical measurements.
-
Storing test results electronically.
-
Exporting completed test results into PDF documentation suitable for customer and IT department review.
Candidates should be prepared to identify the specific Fluke Networks tester and MPO/MTP/LC test modules, adapters, or accessories they have experience using.
Deliverables
The technician will be responsible for providing:
-
Completed testing of all assigned MPO/MTP-to-LC connections.
-
Individual test results for each fiber/light tested.
-
Identification of the corresponding source and destination ports.
-
Pass/fail results and applicable test measurements.
-
Documentation of any failed or marginal fibers.
-
Retest results following remediation, when applicable.
-
A complete PDF test report package suitable for submission to the customer's IT department.
Physical / Work Environment
-
Work will primarily be performed within a data center or telecommunications environment.
-
Ability to work around racks, cabinets, overhead/underfloor cabling, and high-density fiber infrastructure.
-
Ability to safely handle fiber optic cables, connectors, test equipment, and associated hardware.
-
Must comply with required PPE, safety, security, and data center access procedures.
-
May require extended periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working within or around equipment racks.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on fiber certification technician, not simply a network technician who has familiarity with fiber. They should be able to arrive onsite, properly configure the Fluke test equipment, test MPO/MTP-to-LC connections at the individual fiber level, recognize and troubleshoot abnormal results, and produce a complete, professional PDF certification package without requiring extensive supervision.
Important Screening Requirement: Candidates should be able to specifically describe their experience with Fluke fiber certification equipment and MPO/MTP-to-LC testing, including the specific Fluke tester, modules/adapters used, and how they generated individual fiber test documentation.
