Position Summary

The Facilities Surplus Worker receives daily assignments from the Property Inventory Manager and works both independently and collaboratively to complete building clear-out activities efficiently and safely.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Remove furniture, equipment, supplies, and miscellaneous materials from assigned agency buildings.
  • Follow established procedures and direction from the Property Inventory Manager regarding the disposition of property, including:
    • Disposal of non-salvageable materials
    • Relocation of property designated for future use
    • Preparation and transportation of surplus property for State Surplus auctions
  • Load, unload, transport, and stage materials using proper equipment and safe lifting techniques.
  • Organize, label, and stage surplus items in designated storage or warehouse locations.
  • Handle agency property with care to prevent damage during relocation or transport.
  • Perform basic disassembly of furniture, shelving, and equipment as needed to facilitate removal and transportation.
  • Remove debris and perform final cleaning of interior spaces to prepare buildings for turnover.
  • Ensure facilities are clean, empty, and free of discarded materials upon project completion.
  • Operate hand tools, dollies, pallet jacks, carts, and other equipment required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report damaged property, safety concerns, or unusual conditions to the Property Inventory Manager.
  • Assist with additional facilities and property management projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds, with assistance or appropriate equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of safe material handling and lifting practices.
  • Ability to safely move furniture, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to prioritize work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify property designated for disposal, relocation, or State Surplus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism while working in occupied and unoccupied facilities.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
