About the Opportunity
We are partnering with an established technology-driven organization seeking an Electrical Hardware Engineer to join its product development team in the North Austin area. This is a hands-on engineering opportunity for someone who enjoys designing electronic hardware, troubleshooting circuit boards, and helping bring new products from concept through production.
You'll work with a collaborative team of electrical, mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing professionals to develop and improve electronic systems used in connected devices and embedded applications. While some embedded firmware development is part of the job, the primary focus is electrical hardware design, PCB development, testing, and troubleshooting.
We're looking for someone with a strong electrical engineering foundation who is comfortable working directly with physical hardware and enjoys figuring out how things work.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, develop, and improve electronic circuits and hardware assemblies used in microcontroller-based products.
- Create electrical schematics, develop PCB layouts, and maintain component libraries using tools such as Altium Designer.
- Perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting of circuit boards, electronic components, and embedded systems.
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment to diagnose electrical issues and verify performance.
- Collaborate with engineers across hardware, firmware, mechanical design, and manufacturing to resolve technical challenges.
- Support hardware bring-up activities, investigate circuit behavior, and troubleshoot interactions between electronics and embedded software.
- Write, modify, and troubleshoot embedded firmware in C or C++ for microcontroller-based devices.
- Participate in product validation, reliability testing, and performance evaluations before release.
- Investigate product issues discovered during development, manufacturing, or field use and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist with regulatory testing and certification efforts, including UL and FCC requirements.
- Support new product introductions, production readiness, component substitutions, and ongoing product improvements.
- Maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, test procedures, design revisions, and troubleshooting findings.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- At least 1 year of professional or equivalent hands-on experience developing analog and digital electronic hardware.
- Practical experience designing or modifying printed circuit boards, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Familiarity with Altium Designer or comparable electronic design automation (EDA) software.
- Understanding of embedded systems involving microcontrollers, sensors, and analog/digital electronic components.
- Experience working with common hardware communication interfaces, including I2C, SPI, Ethernet, RS232, and RS485.
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic assemblies using oscilloscopes, multimeters, bench power supplies, and related diagnostic tools.
- Working knowledge of embedded C or C++ programming and the relationship between firmware and physical hardware.
- Familiarity with firmware programming, debugging, and testing tools.
- Experience using Git or similar version control systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work through technical challenges independently.
- Comfortable communicating and collaborating with engineers from different technical disciplines.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Bluetooth or other wireless communication technologies.
- Exposure to connected devices, IoT hardware, or similar embedded electronic products.
- Familiarity with hardware certification processes, including UL or FCC compliance.
- Experience supporting products through manufacturing, production testing, or field deployment.
- Personal electronics projects involving microcontrollers, circuit design, PCB development, or embedded programming.
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams across multiple locations.
