Nesco Data Center & Infrastructure is seeking a Data Center Network Refresh Technician/Engineer in the Greater Atlanta Area. This is part of a nationwide Financial Institution program.

Network & Data Center Refresh Technician

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Network & Data Center Refresh Technician with proven hands-on experience supporting Client environments and executing large-scale network and data center refresh projects. This individual must understand enterprise data center operations, network infrastructure, hardware replacement, structured cabling, and the coordination required to execute refresh activities across multiple technology and channel partners.

The ideal candidate has participated in an actual end-to-end data center network refresh, not simply rack-and-stack or break/fix work. The candidate must be comfortable working in live, highly controlled enterprise environments and coordinating activities among the customer, network engineering teams, data center operations, OEMs, integrators, and multiple channel partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute onsite activities associated with data center network refreshes, technology refreshes, and infrastructure modernization projects.

  • Perform rack-and-stack, de-rack, equipment replacement, migration, labeling, cable tracing, cable management, and hardware installation.

  • Install, replace, and validate enterprise network equipment including switches, routers, firewalls, patch panels, optics/transceivers, and associated infrastructure.

  • Support migration from legacy network equipment to new-generation platforms while following approved MOPs, SOPs, and change-management procedures.

  • Work within live production data center environments where strict adherence to change control, security, safety, and outage-prevention procedures is required.

  • Perform physical validation of equipment, ports, interfaces, cabling, power connections, rack elevations, asset tags, and network connectivity.

  • Assist network engineers with pre-change validation, cutover activities, post-change testing, troubleshooting, and remediation.

  • Trace and validate copper and fiber connections, including MPO/MTP, LC, and other high-density fiber infrastructure.

  • Coordinate equipment delivery, staging, installation, removal, asset disposition, and shipment activities.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of equipment, serial numbers, rack locations, ports, cabling, and completed work.

  • Escalate discrepancies, damaged equipment, incorrect cabling, labeling issues, configuration concerns, or unexpected network conditions to the appropriate engineering or project team.

  • Work directly with multiple channel partners, systems integrators, OEMs, subcontractors, and customer stakeholders to ensure project activities remain synchronized.

  • Participate in site walks, pre-installation surveys, readiness reviews, implementation windows, cutovers, and post-refresh validation.

Required Experience

  • Prior experience working within Client data center or network environments is required.

  • Demonstrated experience performing an enterprise data center network refresh from a physical infrastructure/network perspective.

  • Strong understanding of data center network architecture, including:

    • Core, distribution, and access switching

    • Network racks and cabinets

    • Patch panels and structured cabling

    • Fiber and copper connectivity

    • Network optics/transceivers

    • Redundant power and network paths

    • Cross-connects and interconnects

    • Out-of-band management

    • Network equipment staging and migration

  • Experience replacing legacy network equipment with new hardware while maintaining production connectivity.

  • Experience working with multiple channel partners and technology vendors simultaneously.

  • Ability to read and interpret rack elevations, network diagrams, port maps, cable schedules, MOPs, installation documentation, and project drawings.

  • Experience working within formal enterprise change-management and maintenance-window processes.

  • Strong understanding of data center security, access procedures, ESD requirements, PPE, and safety practices.

  • Ability to troubleshoot physical-layer issues involving fiber, copper, optics, patching, power, and equipment connectivity.

Preferred Technical Experience

Experience with enterprise platforms from manufacturers such as Cisco, Arista, Juniper, HPE/Aruba, Dell, or equivalent is highly desirable.

Experience with:

  • Cisco Catalyst and Nexus platforms

  • Enterprise switching and routing

  • SFP/SFP /QSFP/QSFP28 optics

  • MPO/MTP and LC fiber

  • Fiber inspection/cleaning and testing

  • Fluke or equivalent cable/fiber test equipment

  • Console access and basic CLI troubleshooting

  • VLANs, trunks, port channels/LAGs, and network uplinks

  • Network diagrams and port-level documentation

  • DCIM or asset-management systems

  • ServiceNow or similar ticket/change-management platforms

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate is not simply a rack-and-stack technician. They should be a seasoned data center/network infrastructure professional who has already participated in significant enterprise refreshes and understands what happens before, during, and after a network migration.

The individual must be able to walk into a data center, understand the physical and logical relationship between the equipment, identify what is being replaced, understand the cabling and connectivity requirements, execute the physical work correctly, communicate effectively with network engineering, and document the completed installation.

Client experience is a hard requirement, along with demonstrated experience supporting a large-scale enterprise network/data center refresh involving multiple channel partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of data center/network infrastructure experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated participation in at least one significant enterprise network or data center refresh.

  • Prior Client experience required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with project managers, network engineers, data center operations, and third-party partners.

  • Ability to work scheduled maintenance windows, including nights, weekends, and occasional extended hours when required.

  • Ability to lift and move data center equipment in accordance with site safety requirements.

  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network , or equivalent hands-on experience are preferred but not mandatory.

Success in This Role

Success will be measured by the technician's ability to execute network refresh activities safely, accurately, and with minimal disruption to production environments, while maintaining precise documentation and effectively coordinating with the customer, network engineering teams, data center operations, and multiple channel partners.
