Data Center Operations Technician
Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable, customer-focused Data Center Operations Technician to support daily data center operations in a secure, enterprise environment. This role is responsible for monitoring critical infrastructure, performing hands-on hardware support, coordinating with internal IT teams and vendors, and ensuring the reliability of systems and facilities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, diagnose, and triage data center equipment and operational issues.
- Validate equipment status, connectivity, and operational readiness.
- Complete daily operational checklists and system health verifications.
- Perform routine checks of communication systems and supporting infrastructure.
- Execute or assist with system startups, shutdowns, and reboots.
- Serve as a liaison between onsite operations and the customer's IT department.
- Continuously monitor data center infrastructure and facility conditions.
- Support the day-to-day operation of critical data center equipment and facilities.
- Maintain wiring closets and server rooms throughout the campus.
- Perform network port patching and physical connectivity verification.
- Verify physical network ports and wireless access connectivity.
- Coordinate hardware installations, maintenance, and repairs with third-party vendors.
- Organize and maintain spare equipment inventory and onsite media storage.
- Perform shipping and receiving of IT equipment and materials.
- Manage media and asset inventory in accordance with established procedures.
- Rack and unrack servers, network equipment, and related hardware.
- Maintain accurate equipment, parts, and inventory records.
- Document all shift activities, incidents, maintenance, and operational changes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a data center, IT operations, desktop support, or network support environment.
- Basic understanding of server hardware, networking, and structured cabling.
- Experience with equipment installations, rack and stack activities, and cable management.
- Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
- Comfortable lifting and moving IT equipment as required.
- Ability to work the required schedule after the training period.
