Storeroom Customer Service Representative

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Storeroom Customer Service Representative to support procurement, purchasing, inventory, and vendor management activities within an onsite manufacturing environment.

This position is responsible for purchasing products, goods, and materials while ensuring customer requirements for price, quality, delivery, and reliability of supply are consistently met. The ideal candidate is professional, detail-oriented, comfortable communicating with customers and vendors, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial setting.

Candidates with experience in procurement, purchasing, metals manufacturing, inventory management, or blueprint reading are especially well suited for this opportunity. Training may be provided for candidates who demonstrate strong initiative and an interest in learning the industry.

Position Details

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM
  • Assignment Length: 6-month temporary assignment
  • Potential for extension or conversion to a permanent position based on business needs
  • Work Location: 100% onsite; remote work is not available
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • Business casual dress; jeans/long pants and collared shirt or blouse are acceptable
  • Steel-toe shoes and safety eyewear are required

Required Onboarding Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must present a valid U.S. passport or certified birth certificate with raised seal on the first day
  • Site-specific background screening and badging requirements must be completed
  • Candidate must bring required background screening documentation on the first day for badging
  • Additional onboarding and badging procedures will be provided prior to start

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Purchasing

  • Perform procurement activities to ensure current and anticipated demand for products and materials is met.
  • Purchase stock, non-stock, and spot-buy materials in accordance with established purchasing strategies.
  • Review inventory forecasts and replenishment recommendations generated through ERP or inventory management systems.
  • Assess existing orders and determine appropriate expediting or de-expediting actions to optimize delivery.
  • Create and process purchase requisitions and vendor purchase orders.
  • Research products and vendors to identify options that meet required specifications, pricing, quality, and delivery expectations.
  • Conduct price comparisons and identify purchasing opportunities that provide the best overall value.
  • Follow up with vendors regarding purchase order status and ensure timely delivery of materials.

Vendor & Inventory Management

  • Communicate directly with vendors to resolve delivery, product quality, pricing, and order-related issues.
  • Monitor the quality and timeliness of products and materials received.
  • Coordinate returns and replacement of damaged or nonconforming goods when necessary.
  • Negotiate and coordinate vendor returns for aging, expired, or excess inventory.
  • Support inventory liquidation activities as required.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, vendors, and internal customers.

Customer Service & Administrative Support

  • Respond quickly and professionally to customer requests and inquiries.
  • Provide timely updates regarding order status, delivery schedules, and purchasing issues.
  • Research and resolve invoice and accounts payable discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Support expedient invoice processing and resolution.
  • Identify and document customer cost-saving opportunities.
  • Produce and maintain customer KPI measurement data.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, and vendor documentation.
  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures and LEAN operating practices.
  • Maintain a professional, organized, clean, and safe work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn ERP and inventory management applications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical aptitude.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and execution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to communicate effectively with customers and vendors.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • 1 year of procurement, purchasing, supply chain, inventory, or related experience.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with metals manufacturing.
  • Ability to read or interpret blueprints.
  • Experience with ERP and inventory management systems.
  • CPM certification or other relevant purchasing/procurement certification.
