Cost Accounting Analyst – Make/Buy Analysis

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cost Accounting professional to support strategic Make/Buy initiatives across the business. This role will partner with Sourcing, Engineering, and Operations teams to analyze manufacturing costs, evaluate outsourcing opportunities, and provide financial recommendations to leadership.

The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing cost accounting experience, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to present complex financial analyses to executive stakeholders. Experience with Oracle Costing and Make/Buy decision-making processes is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities

Cost Analysis & Make/Buy Evaluation

  • Partner with Sourcing, Engineering, and Operations teams to review priority lists of products and sub-assemblies for analysis.
  • Determine the true cost of manufacturing products and components internally.
  • Evaluate potential cost savings associated with outsourcing manufacturing activities.
  • Analyze direct labor, overhead, depreciation, inventory, accounts payable, and other cost drivers.
  • Consolidate internal manufacturing costs and third-party supplier pricing within the company's Make/Buy analysis tool.

Financial Modeling & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain financial models to support Make/Buy decisions.
  • Compare various financial metrics to assess the impact of internal production versus outsourcing.
  • Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for leadership review.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of cost data used in decision-making processes.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Present analysis and recommendations to leadership teams and key stakeholders.
  • Participate in strategic discussions regarding manufacturing and sourcing decisions.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business objectives.

Supplier Cost Validation

  • Assist with auditing supplier charges when outsourcing decisions are implemented.
  • Verify supplier pricing aligns with quotations and assumptions used in Make/Buy analyses.
  • Identify and investigate cost variances and discrepancies.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in Cost Accounting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing cost structures, including direct labor, overhead, and depreciation.
  • Experience supporting Make/Buy analyses and strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Sourcing, and Finance teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle Costing Module.
  • Project management experience supporting Make/Buy initiatives.
  • Experience presenting financial analyses to senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of inventory accounting, working capital management, and supplier cost analysis.
