You’ll work closely with Finance, Production, Procurement, and Project Management to understand where costs are coming from, identify discrepancies, and provide information that helps the business make better decisions.

This is a strong opportunity for an accountant who enjoys going beyond basic general ledger work and wants to understand how products are made, what they cost, and where the company can improve profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Cost Analysis:

  • Prepare cost accounting reports and provide analysis to support operational and financial decisions

  • Review production costs and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost reduction

Standard Costing & Variance Analysis:

  • Calculate and maintain standard costs for products and manufacturing activities

  • Analyze cost variances and investigate the underlying causes

  • Work with operational teams to understand significant changes in material, labor, and overhead costs

Inventory Accounting & Reconciliation:

  • Monitor inventory transactions and ensure costs are accurately captured

  • Perform inventory reconciliations and research discrepancies

  • Support accurate inventory valuation and related financial reporting

Financial Analysis & Profitability:

  • Perform profitability and cost-benefit analysis on products, projects, and operational activities

  • Provide financial insight to help management evaluate costs and potential savings

  • Identify trends and communicate findings clearly to Finance and operational leadership

Month-End Close & Accounting:

  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities related to inventory and manufacturing costs

  • Prepare reconciliations, reports, and supporting schedules

  • Ensure accounting activity is accurate and consistent with company policies and applicable accounting standards

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement:

  • Partner with Production, Procurement, Project Management, and Finance to improve cost visibility and efficiency

  • Help develop and maintain cost accounting processes and procedures

  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting, systems, and overall cost-accounting accuracy

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Experience:

  • 2+ years of cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or financial analysis experience

  • Manufacturing or production-environment experience is strongly preferred

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and U.S. GAAP

  • Experience with inventory accounting, standard costs, and variance analysis

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office

  • Experience with ERP systems is a plus

Analytical Skills:

  • Strong ability to analyze financial and operational data

  • Comfortable investigating variances and identifying the reasons behind cost changes

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills

Work Style:

  • Detail-oriented and committed to financial accuracy

  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating across departments

Communication:

  • Able to clearly communicate financial findings to both accounting and non-accounting team members

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based within a manufacturing environment, with regular interaction with production and operational teams. The role requires extended periods working at a computer, with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor. Employees entering the shop environment are required to wear appropriate PPE.
