Contract Site Reliability Engineer
Overview Client is seeking a Contract Site Reliability Engineer to support its Model Operations and Deployment Engineering team. This role focuses on maintaining, enhancing, and evolving Kubernetes platforms that enable scientific and engineering teams to deploy, operate, and scale critical applications across on-premises and cloud environments.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in Kubernetes operations, Linux systems administration, Rancher-based cluster management, infrastructure automation, and GitOps practices. This position will play a key role in improving platform reliability, operational efficiency, and automation across the environment.
Core Responsibilities Maintain and enhance Kubernetes platforms across on-premises and cloud environments to ensure reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency. Support provisioning, upgrades, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters managed through Rancher. Provide advanced Linux systems administration, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, automation, and operational support. Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions to standardize and automate platform deployment and management. Support and improve GitOps workflows using ArgoCD for consistent and auditable cluster and application configuration management. Collaborate with developers, scientists, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable platform services and sustainable engineering solutions. Identify and implement improvements for platform resilience, observability, security, and maintainability through automation and modern SRE practices.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience. Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Systems Engineering roles. Hands-on experience operating and supporting Kubernetes platforms in production environments. Strong experience managing Kubernetes clusters in both on-premises and cloud-based environments. Minimum 5 years of Linux systems administration experience, including troubleshooting, scripting, networking, and performance analysis. Experience with Rancher for Kubernetes cluster management and platform operations. Strong experience implementing infrastructure-as-code solutions for platform provisioning and lifecycle management. Experience with Kubernetes cluster operations, upgrades, networking, storage, troubleshooting, and workload support. Experience with GitOps practices, ArgoCD, Git version control, and deployment automation. Proficiency in Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages for automation and operational tooling. Demonstrated success working within Agile environments, including Scrum or Kanban teams.
Preferred Skills or Experience Experience with hybrid infrastructure environments spanning on-premises and public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Experience with Kubernetes observability, logging, monitoring, and alerting tools. Familiarity with Kubernetes and Linux security best practices. Experience supporting scientific research environments, high-performance computing, or computational science workloads. Experience with Cluster API (CAPI)-based infrastructure automation approaches. Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline development and platform automation patterns.
Work Details Remote position. Candidates may reside anywhere within the United States. Must be available to work 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST or 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST. Contract assignment with an initial duration of 6 months. Potential extension based on business needs. Interview process includes a Teams interview with the hiring manager followed by a Teams interview with additional team members.
