We are seeking a skilled CNC Grinder Programmer/Setup Technician
to set up, program, operate, and optimize CNC grinding equipment while mentoring operators and ensuring parts meet exact blueprint and quality specifications. Key Responsibilities
- CNC Grinding Setup, Programming & Operation
- Set up, program, and operate CNC grinding machines according to established procedures and customer specifications
- Develop and modify CNC programs using G-Code, Mastercam, and manufacturer-specific programming platforms
- Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine grinding processes and sequencing
- Select appropriate grinding wheels, tooling, fixtures, and machine parameters to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes
- Troubleshoot setup, programming, tooling, and process issues to maximize productivity and quality
- Quality Assurance & Inspection
- Verify conformance of finished components using precision inspection equipment, including:
- Micrometers
- Calipers
- Comparators
- CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines)
- Other metrology and inspection tools
- Utilize a minimum of two inspection methods to validate critical dimensions
- Complete Statistical Process Control (SPC) charting and process documentation according to customer and company requirements
- Follow established quality procedures, including 8-Step Checklists, Route Sheets, Non-Conformance Reports, and Scrap Documentation
- Verify conformance of finished components using precision inspection equipment, including:
- Production Leadership & Support
- Collaborate with Department Leaders to evaluate production schedules, department capacity, and workflow priorities
- Assist in driving jobs through the department to meet customer delivery requirements
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and training to operators and trainees on machine setup, operation, inspection processes, and best practices
- Monitor production performance, including throughput, cycle times, quality metrics, and job status
- Continuous Improvement & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with manufacturing and safety standards
- Perform routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, safety, and world-class manufacturing practices
- Support the development and maintenance of safe operating procedures and workplace safety programs
Required Qualifications
- Ability to interpret and analyze blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
- Strong understanding of CNC grinding processes, tooling selection, wheel selection, and fixture design
- Experience planning and executing grinding operations to customer print requirements
- Knowledge of machining processes related to carbide, ceramic, or precision-machined components preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement
Preferred Experience
- CNC Grinding Setup and Programming experience
- Mastercam programming experience
- Experience with precision measurement and inspection equipment
- Experience in a high-precision manufacturing, carbide, ceramics, aerospace, automotive, medical device, or industrial machining environment
- Leadership, mentoring, or training experience within a manufacturing setting
Education & Training
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical school, machining certifications, or related manufacturing training preferred
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and completion of required annual training programs
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, and perform repetitive motions during a scheduled shift
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards
- Visual acuity required for precision inspection, machine operation, and reading technical documentation
