Buyer / Procurement Specialist
Location:
Fairport, NY – 100% onsite
Pay:$22–$28/hour
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week; flexible start time between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m.
Assignment:
Anticipated one-year contract with possible extension or conversion based on business needs.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer / Procurement Specialist to support purchasing and supply management activities within a technical manufacturing environment. This position combines hands-on buying responsibilities with supplier management, contract administration, cost reduction, and inventory support.
Responsibilities
- Place purchase orders and ensure the timely supply of materials, equipment, and services.
- Use SAP and MRP information to manage purchasing requirements and supplier commitments.
- Communicate regularly with suppliers and internal stakeholders regarding pricing, delivery, quality, and supply issues.
- Assist with supplier negotiations, sourcing strategies, and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Create and maintain supply agreements, pricing agreements, NDAs, certificates of insurance, and related documentation.
- Track supplier quality, delivery, cost, and overall performance.
- Support supplier relationship management activities, including audits when needed.
- Help manage inventory levels, including slow-moving and obsolete materials.
- Resolve invoicing and purchasing discrepancies.
- Participate in cross-functional teams focused on process improvement and supply-chain issue resolution.
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.
Required Qualifications
- At least five years of experience as a plant or corporate buyer.
- Hands-on purchasing experience, including placing orders, working from MRP requirements, and communicating with suppliers.
- Experience using SAP.
- Background supporting manufacturing operations, planning, quality, engineering, or supply chain.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Associate degree with relevant experience required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Due to facility and contractual requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to meet applicable DOD/ITAR compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with strategic sourcing, commodity management, or global supply management.
- Contract writing or contract administration experience.
- Supplier negotiation and price/cost analysis experience.
- Experience supporting global manufacturing operations.
- CPSM, CPM, APICS, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, or Green Belt certification.
