One of Long Island's longest tenured defense / aerospace manufacturers has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Purchasing professional. A recent merger and acquisition has resulted in great growth opportunity for this organization and now is the time to jump on board and enjoy all the perks that come along with this role!

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase all products necessary for production
  • Research, evaluate and contact vendors to obtain price, quality, availability and delivery schedule
  • Analyze and evaluate proposals
  • Coordinate and manage all proposals by vendor
  • Perform price analysis
  • Negotiate pricing and lead time to remain within budget
  • Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price
  • Coordinate shipping of raw material to vendors as required
  • Follow up and expedite orders when necessary
  • Manage vendor relationships and performance
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships
  • Use cost evaluations for development of pre-negotiation strategies
  • Lead negotiations, agreement terms, PO documentation, and invoice reconciliation
  • Working knowledge of standard contract types
  • Ensure continuous flow of materials to support production requirements in the most efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Work closely with senior management, production, engineering and suppliers to establish business building relationships
Requirements:
  • Detail and teamwork oriented with demonstrated organizational skills
  • Strong negotiation skills, Strong relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated, demonstrated sense of urgency, ownership of tasks
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year College or University; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, Manufacturing a must and aerospace a major plus
  • Experience using Epicor 10 a plus or other MRP / ERP system
