Position Overview
We're looking for an experienced Business Intelligence Business Analyst who enjoys working with people, understanding business challenges, and turning reporting needs into practical solutions.
This is a cross between a Business Analysis & Data Analysis role where you'll work directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, investigate data, and help technical teams deliver accurate, useful reporting solutions.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can work independently, ask the right questions, and translate business needs into clear requirements for developers. You'll need hands-on SQL experience and a solid understanding of business intelligence tools, but you won't be responsible for building dashboards or developing complex SQL queries.
What You'll Be Doing
- Work directly with business stakeholders to understand their reporting needs, identify challenges, and define requirements for new or improved reporting solutions.
- Lead requirements-gathering sessions with business leaders, department managers, and other stakeholders to clarify objectives and expectations.
- Develop clear, organized documentation, including Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), user stories, acceptance criteria, and business process flows.
- Translate business requirements into actionable specifications that BI developers, data engineers, and QA teams can use to build and test reporting solutions.
- Use SQL to research information, retrieve data, investigate discrepancies, and support reporting requirements and mockups.
- Create reporting mockups and help stakeholders understand available features and functionality within Power BI or similar visualization tools.
- Collaborate with project managers, developers, data engineers, and testers throughout the development process to ensure requirements are understood and delivered accurately.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily standups, requirements discussions, and project planning meetings.
- Present requirements and findings to project teams, answer questions, resolve gaps, and obtain stakeholder approval before development.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by reviewing dashboards and reports with business users to confirm data accuracy and ensure the final solution meets their needs.
- Contribute to projects focused on improving data consistency, standardizing reporting processes, and building scalable analytics solutions across multiple business functions.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of Business Analyst experience, preferably supporting technology, data, business intelligence, or reporting initiatives.
- Strong experience independently leading stakeholder meetings, gathering business requirements, and translating those needs into technical documentation.
- Hands-on experience creating BRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and reporting specifications.
- 3+ years of SQL experience, with the ability to independently query databases, retrieve information, research data, and validate reporting results.
- Experience working with Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or comparable BI/reporting platforms, with an understanding of dashboard capabilities and reporting functionality.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including experience working with both senior business leaders and technical development teams.
- Experience collaborating with BI developers, data engineers, QA testers, and project managers throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies, including sprint activities, requirements refinement, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience participating in UAT and validating reports or dashboards against documented business requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and contribute to active projects with minimal ramp-up time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting enterprise reporting, data modernization, or data standardization initiatives.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and/or Microsoft Power Apps.
- Experience working with Salesforce or other CRM platforms.
- Experience developing reporting mockups, defining KPIs, or documenting business reporting logic.
- Exposure to projects involving multiple data sources, different business units, or varying levels of data quality.
- Experience supporting reporting and analytics initiatives within insurance, financial services, or other data-intensive industries.
