Automated Systems Technician

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Automated Systems Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will contribute to the production of high-quality aluminum and metal architectural façade panels by operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated production equipment. You will be responsible for safely using aluminum and metal forming machinery to cut, bend, and weld panels while ensuring production efficiency, quality, and compliance with company safety standards.

This position requires a strong mechanical and technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair automated systems and industrial equipment.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues involving PLCs, HMIs, sensors, drives, and other automation components.

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and engineering documentation.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize production downtime.

  • Assist with equipment upgrades, retrofits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and IT teams to support automation integration and system optimization.

  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, and parts inventory documentation.

  • Safely load, operate, and monitor automated machinery and production equipment.

  • Perform production line startup and shutdown procedures.

  • Operate press brakes to form aluminum and sheet metal components.

  • Use a TIG welder to secure bent sheet metal corners and complete façade panel assemblies.

  • Start machine programs and monitor equipment to ensure proper operation and product quality.

  • Clean equipment and perform routine operator maintenance.

  • Follow all company policies, including the Group Code of Conduct, Group Compliance Manual, and Compliance requirements outlined in KNA-SOP-1705 Compliance Roles and Responsibilities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with industrial automation systems (preferred).

  • Strong applied mathematics and problem-solving skills.

  • Basic understanding of drafting principles and technical drawings.

  • Proficient with computers and manufacturing software.

  • Experience starting machine programs, safely loading equipment, and performing production line startup and shutdown procedures.

  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and troubleshoot automated equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Experience using diagnostic tools and automation software.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production line environment.

  • TIG welding experience.

  • Forklift certification.

  • Familiarity with Salvagnini machinery or similar automated metal fabrication equipment.

  • Frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force.

  • Constantly perform light physical activities associated with operating machinery and handling materials.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while also walking and standing as needed throughout the shift.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, odors, varying temperatures, and humidity.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
