Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Assistant Production Manager
to support daily manufacturing operations in our boiler and pressure vessel production facility. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an emerging manufacturing leader to develop the skills and experience needed to advance into a Production Manager position.
Working alongside experienced operations leadership, the Assistant Production Manager will play a key role in coordinating production activities, supervising employees, maintaining quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in overseeing daily manufacturing operations to ensure production goals for quality, safety, productivity, and on-time delivery are achieved.
- Support and provide leadership to production personnel, including supervising operations during the Production Manager's absence.
- Monitor workflow, labor utilization, and production schedules to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and established quality standards.
- Learn and support compliance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements, company quality procedures, and applicable regulatory standards. Prior ASME experience is beneficial but not required.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and Shipping departments to resolve production challenges and improve operational performance.
- Assist with employee training, coaching, performance development, and workforce engagement.
- Participate in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
- Promote a safe workplace by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Operations Management, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent manufacturing experience will also be considered.
- Three to five years of manufacturing or fabrication experience, preferably with prior supervisory, lead, or team leadership responsibilities.
- Experience in boiler, pressure vessel, welding, heavy fabrication, or industrial equipment manufacturing is highly preferred.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP software systems is preferred.
- Willingness to learn ASME code requirements and industry best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with welding, fabrication, machining, or industrial assembly processes.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Basic understanding of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements.
