Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead the accounting operations of a growing credit union. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting regulatory compliance, and driving efficient accounting processes. The Accounting Manager will provide leadership to the accounting team while partnering with senior leadership to support the organization's financial strength, operational excellence, and commitment to exceptional member service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and develop the accounting team, including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and workflow management.
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including:
- General ledger maintenance
- Account reconciliations
- Accruals
- Month-end close activities
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP and credit union regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of NCUA Call Reports and other required regulatory filings, including those for the Texas Credit Union Department.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate and support internal audits, external audits, and regulatory examinations.
- Prepare financial reports and analyses for senior leadership.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting systems, automation, workflows, and operational efficiencies.
- Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and organizational policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive accounting experience within a credit union or financial institution.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Financial institution accounting
- Internal controls
- Experience with credit union regulations and NCUA Call Report preparation preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with accounting software and core processing systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and integrity.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment credit check is required.
