Project Financial Analyst / Accountant – ADOT

Work Schedule

  • Hybrid schedule: 2 days per week in the office and 3 days per week remote.

  • Candidates must be available and willing to work the required hybrid schedule.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for reconciling and closing ADOT projects to ensure the timely release of funds while maintaining compliance with both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) rules and regulations.

The selected candidate will analyze and validate project funding costs, collaborate with federal agencies, local governments, and various ADOT departments, and assist in resolving project-related financial issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile and close transportation projects.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and FHWA regulations.

  • Analyze and validate project costs and funding sources.

  • Research project-related financial issues and provide recommendations for resolution.

  • Process financial adjustments and corrections.

  • Prepare final voucher forms for submission.

  • Review and interpret contract and financial data.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement.

  • Collaborate with federal agencies, local governments, and internal stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.

  • Minimum of 1 year of accounting experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience researching and resolving financial and technical data issues.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial and contract information.

  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Excel (required)

  • Proficiency with standard business software and financial systems preferred

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.

  • Comfortable working with large amounts of financial data.

  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Experience working with government funding, grants, transportation projects, or regulatory compliance is a plus.
