Accountant Analyst

Position Summary

We are seeking an Accountant Analyst to support a manufacturing facility in Devens, MA. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role partners closely with operations and business leaders to improve profitability, strengthen financial controls, and provide actionable financial analysis.

This is a highly visible position with a strong emphasis on cost accounting, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace, and possess strong analytical and process improvement skills.

Candidates should also be able to demonstrate examples of process improvements, automation initiatives, or projects where they partnered with operations to improve financial performance.


Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis

  • Perform detailed cost accounting analysis, including standard costing and manufacturing cost analysis.
  • Analyze operational financial performance and its impact on the Profit & Loss Statement and Balance Sheet.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger, asset, liability, and capital accounts.
  • Prepare balance sheets, income statements, and other financial and management reports.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies and analyze account variances.
  • Conduct financial analysis related to:
    • Rates of return
    • Depreciation
    • Working capital
    • Investments
    • Profitability
    • Operating expenses

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Analyze financial trends and provide recommendations to management.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist leadership with financial planning and decision-making.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain and improve internal accounting controls.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and recommend accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Safeguard company assets through strong financial controls.

Business Partnership

  • Partner with manufacturing and operations teams to improve financial performance.
  • Provide accounting guidance to business leaders.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
  • Serve as a financial resource for operational decision-making.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting.
  • Support financial system implementations and enhancements.
  • Utilize automation tools, including:
    • Excel Macros
    • Power BI
  • Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Leadership

  • Lead or participate in cross-functional project teams.
  • Train and mentor less experienced accounting staff.
  • Share technical accounting knowledge across the organization.
  • Represent Finance on key business initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
  • 2–5 years of experience in:
    • General Accounting
    • Cost Accounting
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Standard Cost Accounting
  • Experience with:
    • Budgeting
    • Forecasting
    • Financial Reporting
    • Balance Sheet & P&L Analysis
    • Internal Controls
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Manufacturing accounting experience (highly preferred).
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience (strongly preferred).
  • Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
    • Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
  • Experience building automations using:
    • Excel Macros
    • Power BI
  • Experience supporting operational teams with financial analysis and process improvements.
