Position Overview

The Accountant Analyst is responsible for compiling, analyzing, and reporting cost accounting and financial information to support management decision-making. This role focuses heavily on manufacturing cost accounting, inventory valuation, variance analysis, month-end close, and financial reporting while partnering closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Analysis

  • Compile, analyze, and report cost accounting information, including:
    • Product costs
    • Manufacturing variances
    • Inventory valuation
    • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
  • Analyze material, labor, overhead, scrap, rework, and other manufacturing cost drivers.
  • Identify cost trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain and review standard costs, Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, and overhead rates.
  • Partner with Operations and management to explain cost variances, evaluate business performance, and recommend corrective actions.

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

  • Support month-end close activities, including:
    • Journal entries
    • Account reconciliations
    • Inventory analysis
    • Variance reporting
  • Prepare financial and operational reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing cost, inventory, and manufacturing performance data.
  • Present financial information clearly to team members, leadership, and senior management.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Analyze projected manufacturing costs, inventory, and COGS.
  • Assist management with financial analysis to support operational and business decisions.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and applicable financial reporting requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable accounting regulations.
  • Support compliance with Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and/or Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), as applicable.

Continuous Improvement & Cross-Functional Support

  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies to enhance cost accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and internal controls.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects involving:
    • Inventory
    • Manufacturing operations
    • Financial systems
    • Process improvements
  • Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, customers, and other business partners.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) required.
  • 6 years of related accounting/financial experience preferred.
  • Strong experience with cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and applicable accounting regulations.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Cost accounting
    • Standard costing
    • Inventory valuation
    • Cost of Goods Sold
    • Manufacturing variance analysis
    • Material, labor, and overhead costs
    • Scrap and rework analysis
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems, spreadsheet applications, and financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial and operational data.
  • Experience preparing detailed reports, graphs, presentations, and business correspondence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, analyze data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and management teams.
