A light industrial grinder is responsible for operating grinding machines to smooth, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or other materials to meet quality specifications. Duties include reading blueprints, setting up equipment, operating the grinder, performing quality checks, and conducting basic maintenance like cleaning and lubrication. This role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work with various tools and measuring instruments.  
Key Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Operation : 
Set up, operate, and monitor grinding, polishing, and buffing machines to produce finished products. 
  • Quality Control : 
Inspect workpieces to ensure they meet dimensional and quality specifications using micrometers, gauges, and other tools. 
  • Material Preparation : 
Mount workpieces onto equipment and feed materials into or through the machines. 
  • Maintenance : 
Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts. 
  • Blueprint Reading : 
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to understand operational methods and product requirements. 
  • Finishing : 
Smooth surfaces, remove excess material, and correct defects like scratches and sharp edges. 
  • Safety : 
Adhere to all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face shields and gloves. 
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Technical Skills : Proficiency in operating various grinding and polishing machines. 
  • Attention to Detail : A meticulous approach to inspecting finished pieces and ensuring precision in shaping and smoothing. 
  • Reading Comprehension : Ability to read and understand technical blueprints, schematics, and work orders. 
  • Problem-Solving : Skill in identifying defects and selecting the appropriate tools or machines to correct them. 
  • Physical Stamina : Strength and endurance to handle materials and operate machinery. 
  • Teamwork : Ability to work effectively as part of a production team. 
Work Environment:
  • Manufacturing Settings : Grinders work in manufacturing, automotive, and metalworking industries. 
  • Industrial Facilities : The work environment may involve exposure to dust, steam, and metal grime, requiring a commitment to cleanliness and safety. 
  • Safety Measures : Grinders use specialized tools and wear appropriate safety gear, such as safety glasses, face shields, and gloves. 
Shift:
Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:00pm 
Potential for overtime each day including weekends.
