Position Summary
Leads press crew operations and performs hands-on manual and machine operator tasks related to press set-up, maintenance, and operation. Accountable for both production output and print quality.
Responsibilities:
- Make ready and operate offset press
- Direct, guide, and monitor the work of the press crew
- Track sheet counts and conduct line clearance
- Review job orders to determine run quantities, stock specs, colors, and special print instructions
- Verify printed copy against customer approvals or signed color standards
- Inspect printing plates for defects; apply corrective solution for minor repairs or escalate unrepairable plates to management
- Mount plates and achieve proper registration
- Install correct packing thickness under blanket per manufacturer specifications
- Measure paper thickness and adjust press console settings accordingly
- Fill ink and dampening solution fountains; adjust controls to regulate flow to plate cylinder
- Start press and inspect output for ink density, position, and registration
- Make ongoing press adjustments throughout production runs to maintain registration and color density
- Adjust feeder and delivery mechanisms as needed
- Remove plates and clean all cylinders and bearers after runs
- Perform preventive maintenance including lubrication, cleaning, and minor roller adjustments
- Follow all company regulations, policies, SOPs, and work procedures applicable to the role
- Perform all duties in accordance with established safety policies; wear all required PPE
- Maintain clean and organized work area per departmental housekeeping standards
- Available to work flexible hours as production demands
- Additional duties as assigned by press room leadership

Experience & Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required; trade or vocational school preferred
- 5–7 years of experience as a Second Pressman
- Forklift certification required
Equipment Used:
Forklift, pallet jack, standard power and hand tools
Physical Requirements:
Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. Role also requires extended periods of standing, reaching, walking, stooping, lifting, grasping, and repetitive hand/wrist/arm motion. Close, distance, peripheral, and color vision required, along with depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, elevated noise levels, and potential exposure to hazardous materials. All required PPE and applicable training will be provided.
Overtime may be required to cover absences, vacations, or production demand.
