An entry-level CNC machinist operates computer-controlled machines to manufacture precision parts
. Daily responsibilities involve loading raw materials, monitoring machine cycles, measuring finished components for accuracy, and assisting senior staff with machine setups.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation:Load raw stock, press start, and monitor the machinery to ensure smooth production.
- Quality Control:Measure finished parts using precision tools like calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges to ensure they meet strict blueprint tolerances.
- Setup Assistance:Help senior machinists install fixtures, load cutting tools, and perform basic machine offsets.
- Maintenance & Safety:Perform routine preventative maintenance on machines, keep the workspace clean, and follow all safety protocols.[ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]
Common Qualifications
- Education:High school diploma or GED; vocational or technical training/certification in machining is highly preferred.
- Mechanical Aptitude:Basic understanding of machining processes and a strong mechanical inclination.
- Math & Measurement:Foundational shop math and the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
- Soft Skills:High attention to detail, strong hand-eye coordination, and a willingness to learn on the job
