Purchasing Planner

Summary
We are seeking a Buyer/Planner to join our team. This tactical and hands-on position is responsible for the purchasing and planning functions that keep our production operations running efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a solid background in manufacturing procurement, and a working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems. You'll work closely with the Division Manager, Corporate Office, and vendors to ensure materials and production schedules align with company goals and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing
-
Review and issue purchase orders for raw materials, components, and outsourced services after appropriate approval.

Monitor and expedite open purchase orders; follow up with vendors on delivery dates and past-due items.

Evaluate vendor performance and assist in sourcing and qualifying new suppliers.

Handle nonconforming materials, vendor returns, and credit requests.

Support Sales and Estimating with vendor pricing, lead times, and capability data as needed.

Manage the RFQ process and collaborate with vendors to ensure accurate and timely responses.

Maintain accurate purchasing records and enforce compliance with company policies and PO terms.

Identify and document continuous improvement opportunities within purchasing processes.

Obtain required approvals before issuing POs:

Direct materials &Client; $10,000 require ownership approval.

Indirect materials &Client; $100 require ownership approval.

Planning
-
Review production schedules, input data, and system requirements to determine materials, priorities, and labor needs.

Use the MRP Planning module (Intuitive ERP) to generate and release planned work orders.

Issue dispatch lists to production work centers and adjust schedules as needed for quick-turn or modified orders.

Requisition and maintain inventory of materials and supplies to meet production demand.

Track work progress to ensure timely order fulfillment and customer satisfaction.

Collaborate with Purchasing to resolve material shortages or delays.

Review MRP exception logs and coordinate with Engineering for data corrections.

Participate in contract review to determine the feasibility of meeting new customer requirements.

Report department effectiveness and progress during management reviews.

Maintain safety standards and promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.

Experience:
-
Minimum of 1–2 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.

5–10 years of combined purchasing and/or production planning experience preferred.

Computer Skills:
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).

Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Intuitive ERP preferred).

Certifications:

APICS and/or CPIM certification preferred but not required.
