Position Overview

The Teller serves as the face of the credit union and is responsible for providing exceptional member service while processing a variety of financial transactions accurately and efficiently. This role maintains accurate transactional records, processes deposits and withdrawals, balances cash drawers, and promotes credit union products and services.

The ideal candidate will have recent banking or credit union teller experience, strong cash handling skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining compliance with all policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Member Service & Transaction Processing

  • Greet and welcome members in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.
  • Provide prompt, accurate, and efficient transaction processing.
  • Process deposits by:
    • Receiving cash and checks/share drafts
    • Verifying amounts
    • Reviewing endorsements
    • Entering transactions into the system
  • Process withdrawals and cash checks after verifying signatures and available balances.
  • Generate transaction receipts and maintain accurate transaction records.

Loan & Payment Processing

  • Receive and process:
    • Consumer loan payments
    • Credit-related payments
    • Other member payments
  • Verify payment amounts and balances due.
  • Enter payments accurately into the system and generate member receipts.

Account Maintenance & Deposit Services

  • Place holds on accounts for uncollected funds in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Process mobile deposit submissions and apply appropriate extended holds when necessary.
  • Review and update member contact information according to established procedures.
  • Process account maintenance requests as required.

Cash Handling & Balancing

  • Count, verify, and package coins and currency.
  • Maintain accurate cash drawer balances throughout the day.
  • Balance cash drawer at the end of each shift.
  • Compare cash totals to computer-generated proof sheets.
  • Report discrepancies to management promptly.

Teller Operations

  • Ensure teller station is properly stocked with forms, supplies, and operational materials.
  • Report teller terminal or equipment malfunctions.
  • Process and record information related to night depository bags.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records.

Product & Service Promotion

  • Educate members on available credit union products and services, including:
    • Consumer loans
    • Mortgage loans
    • IRAs
    • Certificates
    • Money orders
    • Other financial products
  • Identify opportunities to refer members to additional products and services based on their needs.

Compliance & Security

  • Ensure compliance with all credit union policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to:
    • Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
    • USA PATRIOT Act
    • Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
    • Internal security and operational procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of member and organizational information at all times.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Teller in a credit union or banking environment.
  • Previous cash handling experience required.

Preferred Experience

  • Teller Cash Recycler experience.
  • DNA core banking system experience.
